Climber Story: Libby Kasmer - Dynamite Starfish

To start, tell us a little bit about yourself

My name is Libby and I’m 26 and I like to say that I’m a full time climber and a part time baker. I work at a production bakery that makes about 1,100-2,400 pounds of bread a day. When I’m not baking I’m usually climbing, training, or hanging out with my doggos.

How did you start climbing?

I started climbing at my boarding school, Colorado Rocky Mountain school, when I was about 17. They had a small indoor gym and a climbing program. I then decided to join their climbing team and that’s really what got me into climbing. That school changed my life.

What impact has climbing had on your life?

Climbing is such an identifying factor for me. I’ve met my closest friends through this sport. I’ve met my fiancé through climbing and it’s such a strong passion of both of ours. It keeps me focused and healthy and challenges me. It makes me excited and scared and frustrated and ecstatic all in one session. I don’t know what I would be doing without it.

What are some other things you do that you find most fulfilling?

I enjoying making and eating food. Food is such a good way to be around people we love, meeting new people, and experiencing new cultures. I try to go backcountry skiing as much as possible. Overall being outside is very calming for me.

If you could tell the world one thing, what would it be?

Life’s too short to just settle

Favorite thing about Dynamite Starfish??

I love their involvement in the community as well as their sunset bouldering crop top!

Is there something you're working on that you'd like to tell our community about? We love a good story.

I’m working on trying to hit double digits on a boulder problem. It’s been a long process and lots of injuries but it’s a dream to. I think I’m close to being able to achieve one, I just don’t have access to one my style at home. So I try when I’m on trips but it’s hard to concentrate on one thing when there’s so many good problems out there. However, that is my current focus.
