Climber Story: Fallon Rowe - Dynamite Starfish

To start, tell us a little bit about yourself

My name is Fallon, I'm 25, and I'm a lifelong climber! I currently work as a high school science teacher, but am quitting after this year so I can focus more on my health and climbing. I have a geology degree and hope to go to grad school eventually.

How did you start climbing?

I started climbing in 2003 at a YMCA gym in Boise, Idaho where I grew up. I was on a couple different Boise youth climbing teams growing up, and traveled around the West to compete for about 14 years. In high school, I also climbed 49 of the 50 state highpoints and was really into mountaineering. Since college, I have shifted my focus to sport and trad climbing.

What impact has climbing had on your life?

I have no idea who I'd be without climbing. It has always been my constant and my everything. As a kid, it was the most positive, safe community I could have asked for, and was always there for me when I was struggling. Climbing's influence on my life is seriously huge. It guides all of my decisions -- where I live, who I date, how I spend time and money, how I exercise and travel, etc. I wouldn't trade it for the world.

What are some other things you do that you find most fulfilling?

I serve on the Board of Directors for the Highpointers Foundation, and volunteer with them to help protect state highpoints. I love wilderness and mountains, so I find that work very fulfilling. Being a science teacher and climbing coach has also taught me a lot, and I find it incredibly rewarding to educate others.

If you could tell the world one thing, what would it be?

You make choices every single day that determine the trajectory of your life. Your life is up to you. Focus on what you control. Following Stoic philosophy is the best choice I ever made (start by reading "Meditations" by Marcus Aurelius).

Favorite thing about Dynamite Starfish?

I love all the fun Dynamite Starfish designs, particularly on the tank tops!

Is there something you're working on that you'd like to tell our community about? We love a good story.

I have been building my climbing coaching business, Sage Sending! I love sharing my expertise and getting to coach people from all over the place, especially on mental topics in climbing.
