Climber Story: Tina Brown - Dynamite Starfish

To start, tell us a little bit about yourself

Hi my name is Tina! I am a 30 year old UX designer.

I have always enjoyed challenging myself physically. I grew up skinny and fell in love with gymnastics and did that for a few years in middle to high school. After college, I got into all sorts of workouts — HIIT workouts that includes cardio and weight training, spin classes, barre, and yoga.

On top of that, I started to find my passion in the outdoors. I hiked a lot, started camping, and then backpacking. It is the outdoors that brings me a sense of peace and feeling rejuvenated.

How did you start climbing?

When I met my now husband in 2017, he introduced me to climbing. The rest is history! I fell in love with the physical and mental challenge of it all.

We now climb together three times a week, and have met great friends at the gym to go outdoor climbing with as well. We document our climbing adventures together on Instagram at @boulderingbrowns.

We also introduced many friends to climbing at the gym! It's been a great experience helping others start their journey in climbing, because let's be honest, it is a intimidating thing to start if you're all alone.

The climbing community is great too. I always enjoyed learning from other climbers especially how they climb and how they train.

What impact has climbing had on your life?

Climbing has helped my physical and mental health tremendously. I enjoy being fit and healthy. Climbing definitely made me physically stronger all around. It also helped with my mental health because when I am on the wall it's just me and the problem. I get to leave everything else to the back of my mind. It helps me reset!

What are some other things you do that you find most fulfilling?

Hiking, camping, backpacking, HIIT workouts (I go 4-5 times a week), and of course training my dog Oslo (@originofoslo)!

If you could tell the world one thing, what would it be?

Find what fuels your mind, soul, and body. Then keep doing it!

Favorite thing about Dynamite Starfish?

I love that Dynamite Starfish is not only a shop, but a community with inspiring conversations with climbers.

Is there something you're working on that you'd like to tell our community about? We love a good story.

I am planning my next backpacking trip with friends, as well as focusing on Oslo's (my dog) training. We hope to head to a dog show sometime this year with him, as well as get more into dog sports.
