Climber Story : Michelle Ang
To start, tell us a little bit about yourself
Hi! My name is Michell Ang. By day I work for a national cancer agency in Canada on health policy, but I'm a climber at heart and try to get outside as much as I can.
How did you start climbing?
I started climbing in grad school when a friend suggested it as a way to relieve the stress. I fell in love immediately and been climbing for over 10 years now
What impact has climbing had on your life?
Climbing has without a doubt changed my life. Before I started climbing, I had never camped, hiked or spent much time outdoors. My parents are immigrants from Malaysia and did not grow up doing outdoor sports or activities at all. Discovering climbing later in life resulted in me discovering the entire world of outdoor recreation that I never knew about. I'm so happy to have finally discovered this as my passion. Climbing has led me to take extended time to travel in a van, and recently is the main influence behind a cross country move to the mountains. To say that climbing may have been the single biggest influence in my life would not be an understatement.
What are some other things you do that you find most fulfilling?
I love to find creative outlets. Whether it is drawing and illustrating, beading homemade earrings, or building things for my home, I love to keep busy and keep my hands moving.
