Climber Story: Kat Vick - Dynamite Starfish

To start, tell us a little bit about yourself

Hiiii, I’m Kat. I’m 29, a pediatric trauma nurse from Atlanta by way of Texas, currently thriving in LA.

How did you start climbing?

I went on an awkward double date at the climbing gym.

What impact has climbing had on your life?

My life was changed the first day I stepped into the gym. I fell in love with the sport, the people, and the community. It was through climbing that I found AcroYoga, my second love. As a nurse dealing with stressful situations that have the highest stakes, the climbing gym and the people there became my sanctuary.

I love the way climbing brings people together. It challenges them to confront their personal and physical boundaries while allowing them to form new relationships where the trust built between you and your partner is literally what is keeping you up.

What are some other things you do that you find most fulfilling?

I love campfire food, bringing people together, growing green things, and moments that are so happy you can’t even remember how you got there.

If you could tell the world one thing, what would it be?

Pay it forward whenever you can. Smile at someone on the street just because you’re having a good day. Take a moment, help someone get something on the top shelf because one day there will be something you can’t reach and hopefully someone will help you too.

Favorite thing about Dynamite Starfish?

It feels whimsical. Everything we do really is in a way. I have a Dynamite starfish sticker on my camp mug I take everywhere with me. It's just a gentle reminder not to take yourself too seriously, play a little, and love a whole lot.

Is there something you're working on that you'd like to tell our community about? We love a good story.

Yes! Destroy my old teammates as best dressed at Horseshoe Hell this year.
