Climber Story: Kamden Dixon

To start, tell us a little bit about yourself

Hey! I’m Kam, a black queer trans guy from the south. I am a Charlotte based climber and nature artist (@shopfoggyboulders) currently working on a collection entitled Far-Out Fruit.

How did you start climbing?

I started climbing when a group of REI coworkers asked me to go the climbing gym with them. I didn’t have shoes, but I found the perfect pair of Black Diamond Momentum shoes in the garage sale at work...the rest was history!

As soon as i touched the wall, I knew something had just begun. The next day at work, I started looking for a helmet and harness.

What impact has climbing had on your life?

It’s hard to truly write how impactful climbing has been on my life because it continues to be such a positive outlet for me. It helps with my mental health in ways I could never have imagined, and I’ve made some of my best friends because of climbing.

I also have to take a second and shout out my home gym as well, Inner Peaks, because they have created such a safe and welcoming environment for everyone who comes through their doors. It was a no brainer when I finally signed up for my membership.

What are some other things you do that you find most fulfilling?

Other activities that make my heart happy include creating art, hiking, and helping people whenever and however I can!

If you could tell the world one thing, what would it be?

You don’t have to better than you were yesterday, you just having to keep showing up and trying. Sometimes the beauty is in the attempt not the success.

Is there something you're working on that you'd like to tell our community about? We love a good story.

As far as climbing goals, I've been working hard to send my first V5. Hopefully I can make that happen this year. And I'd like to spend more time climbing outdoors versus in the gym this fall! 

For self goals, I'm currently saving up to have top surgery by the end of next year (2024) 🤠
