Climber Story: Eric Corrales
To start, tell us a little bit about yourself
I am a freelance photographer & video editor who loves climbing
How did you start climbing?
I started climbing because I worked on a video project involving Renan Ozturk, Taylor Rees (Ozturk), Tommy Caldwell, Sasha Digiulian, Alex Honnold and Jared Leto. Combing through the footage as a video editor, terrified of heights, was inspirational. Post project my fellow editors and I decided to give Stronghold Climbing Gym a visit and from then on it was nothing but love for the sport.
What impact has climbing had on your life?
Since I began climbing I’ve realized how impactful it is in many facets of life. Climbing has put me in touch with nature and the seasons and has provided me with mental clarity, stress relief, community, strong friendships, adventure and a calmness under pressure which is a great quality to carry over to the workforce.
What are some other things you do that you find most fulfilling?
Photography is another fulfilling part of my life. As a young kid I never left the house without my camera. Over the years photography remained a constant for me. It’s my form of art which documents moments worth reliving.
I also find my house plant collection to be fulfilling. Plants are my form of keeping nature close when I am not climbing. Waking up surrounded with amazing ever changing life is such a peaceful feeling.
