Climber Story: Charles Dickson

To start, tell us a little bit about yourself

Hi, I’m Charles Dickson! I am 22 years old and I live in Anchorage, Ak. I have a commercial drivers license and I work for a small liquor store. Just this past year, I’ve been dabbling in different outdoor hobbies just enjoying friends and the amazing views Alaska has to offer!

How did you start climbing?

I was 20 years old and decided to check out my local climbing gym. I absolutely fell in love with my community and have been trying to embrace and learn from the lovely people I’ve been meeting.

What impact has climbing had on your life?

I’ve found more self worth and more joy out of being social. Before climbing, I felt like I was always a hermit and more self focused. These past two years have taught me to learn and become a better version of myself!

What are some other things you do that you find most fulfilling?

I’ve found backpacking super rad and, in general, taking a step back from society. Although I consider myself to be an extrovert-introvert, I find myself throwing on a backpack and self-reflecting. My other hobby I enjoy a lot is fat-tire biking — it’s a great winter hobby.

If you could tell the world one thing, what would it be?

Enjoy what you do and accept challenges to make your life a bit more exciting to live.

Favorite thing about Dynamite Starfish?

I absolutely love the inspirational messages in a lot of posts and hearing about different climbing communities!

Is there something you're working on that you'd like to tell our community about? We love a good story.

Sometimes it feels like I'm all over the place, so I've been focusing on setting a better schedule for myself!
