Some of you may wonder what “made for climbers, misfits, and lovers” means. How many people out there climb, but don’t really feel like they fit into the “climber” category? I certainly felt that way, and I’ve met a lot of people who say the same. You might be very competent at climbing, but still not really feel like you fit in to that “climber" category. Many of the people who don’t feel at home in any of the various categories presented to us by our culture, you end up feeling like a misfit. That can feel lonely at first, but I really believe you can learn to own it. As people who climb, most of us really are misfits anyways. We climb because we often don’t fit in to corporate culture etc, but we’ve found the perfect balance of fun, adventure, and weirdness in climbing. Climbing can also teach you how to love. When you spot or belay your partners, you literally hold their life in your hands. When you think about that, it’s a very important act of care. You learn to support and care for others while also pursuing your own objectives. You have long and difficult conversations en route to your destinations. You develop relationships over time, and decades down the road, wonder what you ever would have done without those partnerships. Being a “climber, misfit, and lover” is a reclamation of your own unique identity. We live in a world where everyone else wants to tell you who you are and how to feel about it. I say screw that. It’s important to remember that categories of identity are cultural constructs. Only you know who you truly are. Go ahead and climb. Be proud that you don’t fit in. And most importantly, love with your whole heart. pictured: Dynamite Starfish for Climbers, Misfits, and Lovers — Short Sleeve Hoodie photo of @tradisplaid by @alicehafer

We normally donate 5% of our profits to organizations that do conservation work on-the-ground. This is part of our program to offset any potential traffic Dynamite Starfish might inspire to get outdoors. We currently partner with the Access Fund.

In the past, we have partnered with the Friends of Joshua Tree, the Friends of the Inyo, American Safe Climbing Association, The American Himalayan Foundation, and Planned Parenthood. We still collaborate with these non-profits from time to time.

Dynamite Starfish also offers pro-bono graphic design services to organizations that partner with us to raise awareness about outdoor ethics education and safe climbing.

Our Base Apparel

Ethical treatment of all people is something we have been advocates of since the first day of business. Our base apparel all come from Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP) certified factories.

WRAP is a globally recognized, independent third party certifying body whose mission is to promote ethical, humane, and lawful conditions and practices in all manufacturing facilities.

Companies accepted into the WRAP organization go through an extensive application process in which manufacturing facilities, working environments, and workers’ rights are inspected and approved by the WRAP association. WRAP certifications are awarded based upon both internationally and nationally accepted humane workplace standards, local laws, and ethical manufacturing regulations.

Screen Printing

Most of our apparel is screen printed by the artist & founder at a public print shop in Los Angeles, CA. When we need help with larger screen printing projects, we hire from within the climbing community or support local artists and artisans.

DTG Printing

Some of our apparel is printed by a third party and sent directly to the customer from their location. This process reduces waste on our end and relieves us from overstocking.
